DJ Pierre New Track - SELECKTA - OUT NOW

As someone that has championed Acid House since its inception in the UK, it was inevitable that at some point i would get to meet the legends of Acid House stateside. When we founded our magazine LSD Magazine, my partner Sirius23 (Spiral Tribe) and i immediately decided to produce an Acid House issue. This brought us into direct contact with many many legends from Chicago, New York and Detroit. One such legend is DJ Pierre. Now it doesn't take a trainspotter to recognise that name because anyone from that era has these names etched into memory.

DJ Pierre was one member of the infamous Acid House pioneering band Phuture, who had a string of hits throughout the period but particularly during those early years of the new genres conception. Bands such as Phuture and DJ Pierre himself walked amongst the rock gods in our books. They were equal to any legendary rock n roll band, Phuture were the Pink Floyd of Acid House.

I was recently bestowed the honor of joining the Phuture Team as one of the UK correspondents and promoters by their agent Andrea. It's actually a very exciting time in the Phuture camp as 'The Band have got back together' and been banging away at a NEW ALBUM and NEW WORLD TOUR.  Pierre has been working on many NEW Acid House tracks and you'd be happy to know that all relevant information regarding Phuture, DJ Pierre or the new album will be released in the UK via this blog and my many other networks.

To get the ball rolling Pierre has released the new track SELECKTA which is available via the usual networks. Features Rory from the world famous Jamaican sound system STONELOVE, who were also legends from back in the day. There are a few DJ's, producers recording their version of modern day Acid House but Phuture are probably the only pioneering producers to be recreating the sound...

'As one of the founding fathers of the Acid House genre, DJ Pierre is no stranger to the world of electronic music. Originally he was 1/2 of the duo Phuture, who's 1987 E.P. Acid Tracks was the first recording that introduced the repetitive, hypnotic rhythms that have come to be associated with these styles of music. Now he's back with a solo project for Sleckta, which is nothing short of a true testament to the genre which he helped create. Featuring Rory from Stone Love on the rasta-influenced vocals, the track hits heavy with a grinding acid groove that will get anyone on their feet. Be sure to check out the original as well as the remix by JamRoc and be prepared to get your acid smile on. '

Unique 3 releases 'Shades of Grey' on 28th May

I received this in my mail bag!! Remember Unique 3?

Unique 3 ˆ ŒShades of Grey‚ (MATE017)

Unique 3‚s seminal ŒThe Theme‚ was the starting point for thousands of House tracks, record labels and club nights, in fact, possibly the whole damn House Music Industry that followed! ŒRhythm Takes Control‚ and ŒWeight For The Bass‚ changed the whole soundscape and pushed the barriers, not only for club sound systems but mastering plants and record pressing houses, who had to quickly learn and adapt to deal with a totally new sound, levels and frequencies which Unique 3 were demanding, others would soon follow and imitate...

Edzy aka Unique 3 returns on his own label, Mutate Records with ŒShades of Grey‚.   This package is a taster of the remixed version of Unique 3‚s last studio album ŒInvasive Signals‚ which is currently being re worked by a plethora of dance music greats and will be released on Mutate Records, forthcoming later this year.

SHADES OF GREY Tracklisting:

 1. Original Mix

Edzy avoids modern soft synths & electric trickery and heads down into his cellar to dust down some of the original hardware, dusty drum machines & classic synths used on early Unique 3 tracks, to re-create a sound forged back in the day. ŒShades Of Grey‚ alludes to a dark time recollected from the producer‚s recent past & this recording has captured all the dark emotion that period generated.

2. Akiri Kiteshi Remix

Those Kiteshi peep‚s certainly know how to smack their glitch up! from the haunting intro into organically sequenced beats Œn‚ bleeps, smothered with some serious squelchin‚ bass. Truly awesome!

3. Socco Chico Remix

Jacked up, subtle and bass driven all at once... a four to the floor reworking of synth rich techno, beautifully panned around your headspace.

4. Travino Remix

Canada‚s prodigal son Travino sets the scene with pounding kicks, and filtered synth licks before rudely hoofing your front door clean off its hinges, without knocking. More electro orientated with a rough but satisfying bassline moving in and out of squelchy acid lines, and jackin hard clap beats. One for the dancefloor!

5. Alison Marks Remix

The lovely Ms Marks switches the pace into a chilled 4/4 downtempo house affair,  prominent hi hat sequences and popping synths echo all around the mix carried along by a moody organ line and bassline grooves ˆ pure class.

6. TZR Remix

One for the dubsteppers! Seriously deep & moody from the outset, drum heavy beats lead you into a vast space before immersing your whole self into heavy heavy swelling basslines

7. Mad EP Remix

Downsampled drum sequences and lush pads rule the day within Mad Ep‚s mix, real attention to detail through the drum edits. Far too clever for his own good this fella!

Unique 3 releases 'Shades of Grey' (MATE017) on 28th May through Mutate Records.

ID Magazine 1988 - Get Up Get Happy

In 1988 there were no dedicated professional dance music magazines because at this stage there wasn't a dance music scene as we've come to know it today. Yes, House music had reached London in 1985 / 86, but nothing which could be defined a scene. It was the rock and indie magazines that first brought this issue into the mainstream and we're pretty sure they didn't see it developing into the multinational music scene spawned by that mild annoyance Acid house. ID was a grassroots edgy industry journal with the ability to make and break music / fashion careers.  It was a buffer between hardcore rock magazines such as NME who absolutely hated anything produced electronically.  I have loads more articles that i will be posting so be sure to SUBSCRIBE / ADD ME / RSS FEED...
